Finding Raw Milk Cheese
for some, this is a healthy alternative to cheese made with pasteurized milk because raw milk cheese has not been heated (pasteurized), therefore, the raw milk cheese is believed to be healthier than pasteurized milk cheese because many of the enzymes, vitamins, minerals and probiotics are preserved in raw milk cheese, providing more nutrients.
We support our caterers who support local sustainable agriculture by purchasing local raw-milk dairy fresh from local family-run dairies in Southern California, as well as local dairies in Northern California.
Finding Organic Raw Cheese
Finding organic raw milk cheese is definitely more challenging but luckily in LA it's not too bad because there are plenty of local dairy farmers who produce organic raw milk and organic raw milk products.
Because the cheese is made from raw milk, it's especially important to source organic raw milk cheese whenever possible because it's understood that the chemicals injected and ingested by the dairy cows and goats goes directly into the milk that we drink and make our cheeses out of.
So, if you want more nutrient dense milk and milk products by eating raw, opt for the organic raw dairy to be on the safe side.
Be sure to ask the caterer what options you have on dairy and dairy products. It's good to have options, and a savvy caterer can provide you and your guests a plethora of dairy choices including raw milk and raw cheese.
Imagine fresh raw-milk cream in your coffee. It's just a couple ounces, and something everyone should try, even if not a coffee drinker.
Caterers are awesome because they know so much about food, and dairy is no exception. In California, vegetarian, vegan, and lactose free guests is a common thing. Party planners with attention to these details is the difference between good and great catering.
Grocery Stores that carry raw cheese:
Raw cheese can be found in grocery stories and health food shops in and around Los Angeles.
Lassens carries a few brands. Mostly cheddar and sharp cheddar raw cheeses. Lassens Grocery also carries raw milk, local milk, raw and local creamers, and many milk-alternatives such as almond milk, rice milk, etc.
Whole Foods also carries some raw milk cheese. Whole Foods is also a pretty good choice for diary alternatives, like nut milks.
So raw milk is great for the right people, but in the wrong crowd the non-dairy people will be freaked out. I know because sometimes I eat dairy and sometimes I do not. My system and many others have sensitivities to dairy.
As mentioned, you can get dairy alternatives and nut milks in health food stores, but if you haven't tried fresh homemade organic raw nut milk, you should definitely make it yourself or call your local caterer.
Fresh raw organic almond milk, especially with soaked almonds is not only a delightful tasting treat, but also an extremely nourishing one, and maybe slightly expensive if you get quality raw almonds, which we recommend. Local caterers know where to source organic raw almonds for fresh organic almond milk at your event.
What? Fresh organic almond milk not sounding too sexy right now? Imagine the catering staff bringing warm frothy almond milk for your coffee or milk n healthy cookies for an afternoon office snack for your staff.
It's great to know there's tons of possibilities with dairy and non-dairy. It's good to remember, especially when looking for catering services and caterers who can accommodate all types of dairy needs instead of blanketing the whole thing under the labels "milk" n "cheese".
