Los Angeles Wine Tips by Local Wine Expert - RG! Salute!
Modern Choice: the middle zone
Fast forward to today. The cheapest on the shelf, is about $3/bottle. Four times that is only $12. Is that the best in the store? Not likely. The best is about 15- 20 times that.
Most stores today offer a big selection of wines over a wide range of wine prices. You might have noticed the placement on the shelf of the highest priced wines on the top shelf, right at eye level, and the cheap stuff on the bottom shelf, just off the floor, where it’s hard to get. Not a random placement by the management.
If you are looking for the best value, for your own table or for your friends, go for the middle zone.
There are many distinctive, well-made, and representative wines of their origin that will give a memorable glow to the meal. Go for that middle zone.
